IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

Package Terminal Air Conditioner / Heat Pump (PTAC) Recall

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”), Goodman Company, L.P. (“Goodman”), is implementing a voluntary corrective action program (“CAP”) to address a reported fire hazard for certain 5.0 kilowatt (“kW”) Amana-brand and Comfort-Aire and Century-brand Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners/Heat Pumps (“PTACs”) manufactured by Goodman from February 2007 to April 2008. To address this condition, Goodman is providing a new replacement 30-amp power cord for all affected 5.0 kW PTAC units.

To enable Goodman to implement this CAP successfully, we need your cooperation and assistance. Please complete the online questionnaire to register for the CAP. Alternatively, you can download a registration form here and fax it back to Goodman at 1-866-347-3837. Each questionnaire form is designed to inform Goodman of the number of PTAC units you possess that are subject to the CAP. Once Goodman receives your completed form, it will inform you whether your PTAC units are subject to the CAP and, if so, provide further instructions.

This CAP only applies to Amana, Comfort-Aire and Century brand 5.0 kW PTAC units that were manufactured from February 2007 to April 2008. For all brands, the eighth and ninth digits of the model number identify the heater’s power in kW units. If those two digits are 50, it means that the PTAC is a 5.0 kW unit and might be subject to the CAP.

If you do not know the model and serial numbers of your PTAC units, it will be necessary to determine this information by looking at each unit. To find the model and serial numbers of your PTAC units, just lift off the front cover as indicated in the owner’s manual to access the control panel, where these numbers are clearly indicated. For Amana-brand units, the model number begins with the letters “PT,” while Comfort-Aire and Century-brand units have model numbers that begin with “EKT.” For all brands, the serial number is a series of 10 numerals.

To identify whether any PTAC unit is potentially subject to the CAP, first look at the model number. Amana-brand units potentially subject to this CAP have model numbers in the form PTxxx3x50xx, while Comfort-Aire and Century-brand units potentially subject to this CAP have model numbers in the form EKTxxx-150x. If the unit has a model number in one of these forms, it is necessary to look at the unit’s serial number. 5.0 kW Amana-brand, Comfort-Aire-brand, and Century-brand units with serial numbers falling within the range beginning 0702112056 and ending 0804237539 are subject to the CAP.
